The Sub-Acute Plus Nurse Specialty Program is a unique opportunity that provides a pathway for experienced Registered Nurses to transition into the Hospital, Acute Care Specialty. It is innovatively designed to provide intense training for experienced nurses with a passion to work in the hospital setting. The program will provide you with the tools necessary to succeed in today's Acute Care, Hospital environment. The 2023 Sub-Acute Nurse Specialty Program will be offered:

  • March 13th
  • June 5th
  • September 11th
  • November 6thProgram Details:The Sub-Acute Nurse Specialty Program will last for approximately 11 weeks:
    • The first five (5) weeks include a combination of interactive classroom discussions, case studies, online learning, hands-on skills training, and simulation with experienced clinical instructors.
    • The remaining seven (6) weeks are spent at the facility working with an experienced clinical nurse preceptor in the ED
    • Attendance is mandatory for the entire program.What does the Sub-Acute Plus Program include?
      • Mosby's / Elsevier Medical Surgical Core Curriculum
      • AHA Basic Life Support / Advanced Cardiac Life Support
      • NIH Stroke Scale
      • CPI - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Foundation Course
      • Communication Tools based on TeamSTEPPS
      • AIDET, SBAR, Patient Experience, Fall Prevention and moreProgram acceptance requires a minimum two (2) year, full time commitment to the hospital and unit.Facility Description:Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute is a 380-bed acute-care hospital offering a full range of services. Lawnwood is home to the most experienced Heart Institute on the Treasure Coast providing interventional and therapeutic care, including open-heart surgery. Other hospital services include adult and pediatric emergency services, labor/delivery and birthing, pediatrics, orthopedics, oncology, nuclear medicine, diagnostic services, as well as inpatient and outpatient surgical services. Lawnwood is designated by the Joint Commission as a Certified Primary Stroke Center. The Physical Rehabilitation Center is CARF accredited and we are designated a Level II Trauma Center by the Florida Department of Health and verified by the American College of Surgeons. We also offer a freestanding ER in Vero Beach providing emergency treatment for adults and children closer to home.
