program for Registered Nurses! The Sub-Acute Plus Nurse Specialty
Program is a unique opportunity that provides a pathway for
experienced Registered Nurses to transition into the Hospital,
Acute Care Specialty. It is innovatively designed to provide
intense training for experienced nurses with a passion to work in
the hospital setting. The program will provide you with the tools
necessary to succeed in today's Acute Care, Hospital environment.
The 2023 Sub-Acute Nurse Specialty Program will be offered:
- March 13th
- June 5th
- September 11th
- November 6thProgram Details:The Sub-Acute Nurse Specialty
Program will last for approximately 11 weeks:
- The first five (5) weeks include a combination of interactive
classroom discussions, case studies, online learning, hands-on
skills training, and simulation with experienced clinical
instructors.
- The remaining seven (6) weeks are spent at the facility working
with an experienced clinical nurse preceptor in the ED
- Attendance is mandatory for the entire program.What does the

- Mosby's / Elsevier Medical Surgical Core Curriculum
- AHA Basic Life Support / Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- NIH Stroke Scale
- CPI - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Foundation Course
- Communication Tools based on TeamSTEPPS
- AIDET, SBAR, Patient Experience, Fall Prevention and
moreProgram acceptance requires a minimum two (2) year, full time
commitment to the hospital and unit.Facility Description:Lawnwood
Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute is a 380-bed acute-care
hospital offering a full range of services. Lawnwood is home to the
most experienced Heart Institute on the Treasure Coast providing
interventional and therapeutic care, including open-heart surgery.
Other hospital services include adult and pediatric emergency
services, labor/delivery and birthing, pediatrics, orthopedics,
oncology, nuclear medicine, diagnostic services, as well as
inpatient and outpatient surgical services. Lawnwood is designated
by the Joint Commission as a Certified Primary Stroke Center. The
Physical Rehabilitation Center is CARF accredited and we are
designated a Level II Trauma Center by the Florida Department of
Health and verified by the American College of Surgeons. We also
offer a freestanding ER in Vero Beach providing emergency treatment
for adults and children closer to home. Additionally Lawnwood
offers the area's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). At Lawnwood

- FL RN Licensure, or Recognized Compact Licensure (subject to
Florida State Licensing Requirements, including/not limited to
ongoing eligibility and duration provisions)
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
- Strong communication skills required
- Customer service abilities including effective listening
skills.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to
work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing,
bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients
and/or equipment up to 50 pounds
