GENERAL SUMMARY

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the standards of care in the assigned unit. The manager coordinates continuous quality improvement efforts, manages and is responsible for programming and all aspects of care given. The manager is responsible for budget planning, organizing staffing, directing and controlling of all treatment provided on the assigned unit. The manager works collaboratively with other disciplines and departments to improve client care. The manager is responsible for the effective use of human resources and financial objectives as identified by the budget. The manager is responsible for the ongoing education of staff and orientation of new employees, staffing (Payroll/OT).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a current Florida Registered Nurse license plus two years supervisory experience or have an LCSW/LMHC. BSN/BAN preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be in good physical condition with no restrictions of movement.

Must be able to apply Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Techniques (CARE) without limitations.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1.0 Provides leadership and supervision of nursing staff.

1.1 Applies sound personnel practices in interviewing, selection and orientation of staff.

1.2 Consistently supervises staff members in a fair and consistent manner; provides direction as necessary; leads by professional example.

1.3 Always takes immediate action in disciplinary situations; documents actions taken.

1.4 Consistently shares information with subordinates in an appropriate and timely manner; demonstrates tact and discretion as required.

1.5 Consistently motivates staff members in a positive manner; develops teamwork in accepting and practicing the policies and procedures of the Agency; coordinates CQI Teams.

1.6 Ensures that all nursing staff has a clear understanding of their work responsibilities and expectations for performance.

1.7 Demonstrates good leadership by developing standards of performance, determining areas of responsibility and accountability and delegating responsibilities. Attends to follow-up with staff and Administration discipline effectively.



2.0 Conducts Employee Performance Management Activities

2.1 Employee Performance Evaluations are completed and submitted in accordance with established timeframes.

2.2 Position descriptions are reviewed for accuracy.

2.3 Evaluations are reviewed, prior to submission, to ensure all areas are complete, e.g. signatures, accommodation section, required attachments, etc.

2.4 Establishes meaningful and measurable performance objectives.

2.5 Assists assigned staff in maintaining compliance with individual training requirements.



3.0 Oversees activities and day-to-day operation of the program.

3.1 Maintains prescribed staffing ratios and mixes established by licensing standards.

3.2 Develops and monitors work schedules and work hours for Unit personnel. Effects changes as necessary.

3.3 Promotes good staffing practices by maximizing the utilization of human resources. Effectively employs part-time staff and reduces the need to use Agency personnel as appropriate.

3.4 Demonstrates the ability to plan and organize the daily operations of the units.

3.5 Maintains the program operation in an orderly and efficient manner.

3.6 Monitors major expense categories including personnel, inventory and supplies.

3.7 Consistently demonstrates positive inter-intra relations. Cooperates with others to accomplish the Agency's goals and objectives.

3.8 Demonstrates good leadership skills by keeping supervisors informed of program activities, needs problems and administrative matters on a regular basis.



4.0 Ensures that the treatment program meets the needs of the residents, utilizes the abilities of staff and that residents are assigned to needed services.

4.1 Establishes short and long-range goals for the program.

4.2 Designs, implements and evaluates the effectiveness of the ongoing treatment program.

4.3 Oversees admission criteria, policies and procedures (Baker Act Law, clients' rights to ensure safety and well-being of persons served.

4.4 Consistently demonstrates the ability to train and develop RSTs/Cas in their responsibilities.

4.5 Ensures that all RSTs/Cas routinely utilize policy and procedure manuals and other available reference materials as necessary to consistently ensure the quality of service provided.

4.6 Consistently motivates RSTs/Cas in a positive manner; develops teamwork in accepting and practicing the policies and procedures of the Agency.

4.7 Provides direction as necessary: always leads by professional example.



5.0 Participates in administrative committees and meetings, clinical training, staff development and community relations activities.

5.1 Administrative committees and meetings are regularly attended.

5.2 Maintains up-to-date knowledge of clinical practices.

5.3 Participates in relevant staff development activities.

5.4 Develops and implements appropriate in-service training for staff.

5.5 Provides a variety of community relations/education activities.
